12 simple self-care ideas for a busy mom

Often when we think of self-care, we think of a luxurious, most likely expensive, activity that we do separately every now and then. Something that you attempt to squeeze in your already jam-packed schedule and it’s just one more thing to check off of that neverending to-do list. 

It doesn’t have to be that way though. 

Self-care can be simple, realistic, and inexpensive. It can be something you can easily integrate into your life, even including your little ones. 

Here are some ideas on how to intentionally interweave these simple and life-giving activities into your life so that you’re nourishing your mind, body, and spirit on a regular basis. It’s so good for your little one’s to see you do this too! 

  1. 10 minutes of gentle stretching or exercise with the kids. 
  2. Get outside for a walk with the little ones.
  3. Take a hot shower, wash your hair, scrub your feet, and use your favorite body moisturizer afterward.
  4. Read a book for 10 minutes before bedtime.
  5. Turn on music and start an impromptu dance party. 
  6. Enjoy a cup of tea while the kids play alone….take a moment for yourself guilt-free. 
  7. Get outside first thing in the morning light to ground and balance your hormones. 
  8. Write down 3 things you’re grateful for on a daily basis. 
  9. Create a mineral-rich smoothie with lots of good stuff to nourish your body. 
  10. Listen to a podcast or audiobook while cleaning or doing dishes. 
  11. Connect with a good friend that fills you up…connection, being real, and laughter are medicine for the soul! 
  12. Slow down. Look for the little gifts, beauty, and joy in each moment, and actually savor it.
